The MS intelligence report is a fascinating look at the origins of malware.   If I’m reading the data right, it shows that Canada is top in hosting phishers, China and Russia boast high numbers in malware and sources for infection, and the US is the leader in SPAM.  The summary report also displays a graph on OS infections for Windows 32 bit systems.  Not surprisingly, Windows XP is in the top ranks while Vista SP1 stays low to the grass.  Yeah Vista and the UAC!!

Be careful about dumping on Canada – the stat on that one was specifically: “Phishing sites per 1,000 Internet hosts for locations around the world in 1H09”

Keep in mind the population of Canada (34,036,000) is 36th in the World.

So while there may be a lot of phishing sites per person in Canada, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they are the international hotbed of phishing mahem that the finding might seem to suggest.
