Microsoft security intelligence report March 7, 2010

The MS intelligence report is a fascinating look at the origins of malware.   If I’m reading the data right, it shows that Canada is top in hosting phishers, China and Russia boast high numbers in malware and sources for infection, and the US is the leader in SPAM.  The summary report also displays a graph on OS infections for Windows 32 bit systems.  Not surprisingly, Windows XP is in the top ranks while Vista SP1 stays low to the grass.  Yeah Vista and the UAC!!

MS research is working on a device that looks like a hand-held pepper grinder.  And it requires no batteries!  (It looks a bit like a fisher-price style WII remote)

Reports coming out that Steve Ballmer is hosting the press conference for next week’s Mobile World Congress and that the event will include an unveiling of Windows Mobile 7.   More here and here.

Apparently, there’s a bug in DOS that’s getting some attention after all these years!  — and yes, it affects Windows systems b/c of the NTVDM– which is a software “machine” that makes old DOS programs stand up, stretch their hands, and go “errrr– I ‘m hungry– errrrr” while limping toward you.  Here’s a link with more info.  And here’s another link just for fun.
